As you may know, SWOT analysis is used to evaluate these four aspects of your business; strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. This tool helps you to analyze what the company does best and what needs more reinforcement. This is why it is your perfect ally for an interview, a self-evaluation that will help you to answer the questions of the recruiters.
Moving forward, it is time to take notes and realize a SWOT analysis about yourself:
S stands for Strengths:
In strengths, you have to take into consideration all your skills and qualities that make you unique. Here are some examples:
- Skill: SEO, SEM, teamwork, creativity, Illustrator, Premier Pro, Photoshop, interpersonal skills, communication, motivation, organization, strategic thinking, problem-solving, decision making, and mentoring.
- Qualities: honesty, sincerity, empathy, flexibility, and generosity.
W stands for Weaknesses:
In this section you have to find your Achilles heel, the things you lack and the limitations you have that can make you vulnerable for the position. These will help you be prepared for questions that the recruiter may ask you, and to take into consideration if the job position you are applying for is the right fit for you.
- Things you may lack: empathy, self-control, compassion, and attention to detail.
- Your limitations are directly related to the skills you do not have, you have to take into account which ones to consider the job offer seriously.
O stands for Opportunities:
In the opportunities for a self SWOT analysis, you have to be able to answer the recruiter’s questions and relate them to your previous experience and studies. Here is an example that might be helpful: “Due to my previous experience as an SEO assistant, I have learned a lot and got the confidence to face a challenge on my own”. Or, “I did an internship in Web Development and my coding skills have improved notably”.
T stand for Threats:
Here you have to be honest with yourself and just as in the weaknesses quadrant, make a list of the things you cannot control that may make you reconsider the job, here are some examples:
- Negative impressions in your social media
- Bad reviews about you and the way you work
- Changes in your job tasks that you are not expected to deal with, such as more clients, or overworking yourself by taking on too many responsibilities.
Being ready for an interview is one of the best things you can do for yourself, especially if you are applying for your dream job. We hope these tips will help you to do your best in a future interview!
